Electronic Dog Training
Although electronic dog training sounds medieval (in a modern sort of way), it really doesn't hurt your dog. The electrical current is more discomforting than anything. The sensation is similar to the shock you receive after walking on carpet all day then touching metal. Most people would not describe the brief jolt as painful. They just know they do not want it to happen again!
Just imagine how easy dieting would be if you knew that shock would occur every time you touched ice cream, chocolate, or potato chips. Bad habits would be so much more conquerable if there were immediate consequences. With that being said, you would probably only want this form of discipline imposed on you after other attempts at breaking bad habits have failed. Electronic Dog Training is not painful, but you should try other training methods first.
How Electronic Dog Training Works
If other training methods fail to stop incessant barking fail, you may need a bark control collar, which issues a warning beep followed by an electrical current. Some models come with six or more different levels. If your dog does not keep quiet after the initial shock, the collar is programmed to increase the dosage. It usually does not take long for a dog to cut back on the barking.
You can use a similar device to teach the HEEL command. If your dog just cannot learn how to go for a leisurely stroll, you can use this type of collar to issue an audible warning followed by the same type of mild shock. Eventually, all you have to do is issue the warning to make your dog slow down.
