Train Dogs
If you plan on adopting or buying a dog, you will have to train it no matter how old or what breed it is. For some people, there is nothing more rewarding than teaching their pets how to be social, obedient, and happy. Other people just want dogs. They are not interested in training. Dog ownership without responsibility is not an option, but you can choose a dog that fits your personality and will be more manageable than others.
Before adopting or buying a dog, research the learning styles and characteristics of different breeds. If you love being outdoors and exercising, choose an athletic breed that has plenty of energy. If you're more interested in a companion who will sit around and be lazy with you, choose a more reserved and affectionate dog. Not interested in potty training a dog? Adopt a lovable dog that has already been house-trained. (Keep in mind that some house training is always necessary). It is essential that you assess a dog's training needs against your schedule and desire to teach before accepting a dog into your home.
Never choose a puppy simply because it is cute. Have you ever seen a Jack Russell Terrier? They are very small, cute, and affectionate dogs. But many people do not realize what they are signing up for when they adopt one. Despite the affection they give, Jack Russells are highly dominant. Yes, those little rascals set out to take over your entire house. They are not big, but they are persistent. They barrel you over with their cuteness and apologize for their terror with affection. If you do not want a high-maintenance dog, this breed is not for you.
It Is Fun to Train Dogs!
Dog training may take some work, but most people who love dogs enjoy watching their pets learn and grow. Converting an exuberant, eager puppy into a loyal companion is a truly wonderful experience. You may realize after adopting a dog that it is more work than you expected. If you really want a dog, however, do not give up on it. Enjoy the training exercises, or sign your dog up for professional classes. If you are a dog lover, the time and effort is well worth the reward of a long-time companion.
